Text Analysis - Linguistics Meets Data Science
Introduction
This first unit provides the background information needed to engage with the contents of the later, more practical units. The focus is on providing an idea of the different perspectives on Language that come into play during the OER. The unit also briefly overviews different types of tools that can be used for text analytics and introduces the main tool used in this OER: KNIME.
Unit II: Corpus Linguistics and Language
The second unit goes further into the linguistic perspective on Language, specifically focusing on the ideas and approaches found within corpus linguistics. The focus is on providing you with the theoretical knowledge of Language needed for making informed decisions about your text analysis and some familiarity with the methods applied by corpus linguists.
The third unit instead takes a data science perspective on Language and introduces methods applied for text analytics for different practical purposes. The unit introduces topic modelling and sentiment analysis, with examples of how the methods can be deployed using KNIME.
This final unit contains a few use cases showcasing the methods discussed in the OER. While we have provided you with concrete examples, the intention is for you to be able to work through the use cases provided here and then apply those new skills to your area of interest.
Here is a short video that will walk you through the introduction to OER 2. The same information is also given as text in the lessons available under the introduction unit.Course developers:
