1.1 Introduction to #dariahTeach

1.1.2 Why #dariahTeach?

The role and significance of #dariahTeach as an education and training channel has been recognized by significant research infrastructures of the field. As an instructor, you can reach audiences that you could never reach through traditional teaching or through your institution while exchanging knowledge, methodology, and training materials with the network. As a learner, you can reach peer-reviewed educational material by some of the leading figures in the field of Digital Humanities.

"#dariahTeach is a very timely project to put on the European educational landscape. There’s been a lot of talk for years now, not just of like, obviously promoting digital humanities programs but bridging digital gaps in the way we actually provide teaching across Europe. And I think #dariahTeach would be able to accomplish part of that, and also to develop something like open education resources, which is kind of the hype of the day, but develop it into the European quality frameworks for education which I think is important. That would move both the open education resources and quality frameworks."

- Marianne Ping Huang, Development Coordinator, School of Communication and Culture, Aarhus University

"We are starting something new, a resource like this doesn’t exist. We are very
aware of the European context, of the European landscape in the sense that there are gaps in knowledge and skills. It’s also incredibly important to create good training resources for the humanities in Europe, because it is, perhaps, constantly undergoing a crisis. But we are also painfully aware of the economic and political and other types of issues that Europe is dealing with right now. And humanities are necessary if we are to understand them, these crises, and to try to pose certain solutions. So it’s not just about technology, digital humanities is not just about the digital it’s also about the humanities and I think #dariahTeach can play a very important role there."

- Toma Tasovac, Director of the Belgrade Center for Digital Humanities

“There are many opportunities offered by the #dariahTeach platform, the first of them of course is the digital medium. I think it’s very important for us to develop digital resources to teach digital humanities. Lifting the barriers, the boundaries of time and distance is one of the many wonderful things that we can achieve from these kinds of platforms.”

- Marjorie Burghart, Research Fellow, French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS)
