3.2 Creating Engaging #dariahTeach Courses

3.2.2 Activities, assignments, materials

Adding lessons and interactive content on Moodle

The #dariahTeach platform supports a variety of activities and assignments to be added to courses as a means to increase interactive engagement with the learning materials. It is important to note that the platform allows for three methods, or levels, of embedding this content.

The first method allows instructors to add different content types, including assignments and activities, through Moodle. Using this method will position the content as a page that is part of the lesson. This is not the preferred method of embedding assignments and activities, as it hampers the learning flow that befits the more multimodal approach.

The second method uses H5P, a plugin embedded into Moodle to create interactive content, to add such content into a page. This approach is preferred because it reduces navigation between pages, and therefore enhances learning flow.

The third method uses non-H5P content to describe an activity or an assignment. Whereas with H5P content participants have to interact with the content as part of the assignment, in this method all the information is revealed instantly. Assignments can be described in running text, and can be supported with videos and images. This can also be external learning material. For example, the Design Method Toolkit contains useful resources for using design thinking methods and approaches for completing assignments.
